Why I shaved my head: feminine power and mid-life letting go

It's been 12 years since the last time I shaved my head and the time felt right to do it again! We just passed the ritual of the Summer Solstice and I'm creeping up to my 48th birthday. In mid-life I'm learning to embrace the role of elder while keeping up my youthful playful curiosity.

The ritual of shaving my head is a signifier of embodied spirituality. It makes the feelings in my heart tangible and visible. Yes, it's a bit vulnerable, but in that vulnerability comes strength!

Two reasons for the ritual:

1. A reminder that I am free. I entered the world bald, with a mind that was free of conditioning, and a heart that was opening to receiving and expressing love. Yup, that's how I want to feel!

2. A reminder of the power of the divine feminine. This divine feminine is inside all of us and is not limited by race, orientation, gender identity, or any other classification. You could think of the divine feminine as our potential to be creative. We are all constantly creative; whether you're cooking dinner, taking care of a loved one, writing a poem, or running a business, that's your creativity at play. This divine feminine can express itself in long sheaves of hair...or rock a shaved head.

( And yeah, I like the way it looks and it's a cooling haircut for the hot summer! )

Do you have any rituals that help you be more...you?!

Is there one you can do this summer to signify your desire to live more into your natural strengths?

I'd love to know! Drop a comment below!
