““Gita Brown is divine... magical... and changes lives.””
““After two great sessions of Gita’s meditative yoga classes, I have the tools to ‘just be’. I love your teaching technique, I feel we all receive individual attention. You share your extensive knowledge of the body, mind, and spirit. For this I am most grateful.””
““Miss Gita took us in as we were, and totally transformed our lives!” ”
The Snapshot…
I thrive when I work with people who are ready to develop and expand their limits. Whether working with a performing musician or emerging yogi, it's simply thrilling to share a practice where we potential bloom into action.
I’m here to teach you, in a one-to-one or group setting we grow together as we explore the power of yoga, or we can rock your clarinet world into awesome land.
Sounding and Bounding into Geekland
I grew up a happy-go-lucky kid with a taste for creativity and movement; my earliest memories include frolicking in a ‘Sounding and Bounding’ class at our local recreation center where I danced, played the recorder, and expressed my silly side with a purpose! I began playing the clarinet in the fifth grade, and fell head over heels in love with music, eventually attending Interlochen Arts Academy for my final years of high school, and elite music schools for my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in clarinet performance. Along the way I fell in love with yoga and music therapy, securing certifications in both disciplines, allowing me to share my passions with other people.
Enter Teaching…
Teaching is my passion! For the last twenty years I’ve enjoyed teaching music and yoga to folks of all ages, levels and abilities. My father is a professor, and I knew at a young age that I was blessed to be born into a family that valued education, the arts, and intellectual pursuit. I started teaching music while in high school, taught college level music for a decade, and continue to enjoy heartfelt work with my private clarinet students at the South Shore Conservatory in Massachusetts.
During my years of high-level training as a classical musician, I gradually became fascinated with the connection between my mind & body. I began studying yoga in 1996 as a means to facilitate greater physical ease during my music performance career, naturally expanding into teaching yoga almost a decade ago.
In both yoga and music my guiding principle is the same: to serve as a guide to aid each student in realizing their own inner teacher. The result is a fun process of self-exploration, resulting in empowered students!
“As a performer, teacher and yogi, Gita Brown is a consummate professional.”
From Suffering to Clarity
Along the way of my life path, I fell in love and married a great guy I met back in junior high school. Years later, my joy turned to suffering as he developed a crippling addiction to drugs and alcohol. Yoga became my daily sanctuary as I desperately watched him struggle, feeling utterly powerless. For over a decade I experienced spiraling despair witnessing him struggle, eventually facing my deepest fears when we decided to divorce. As I began to resurrect my shattered life I knew that I must fundamentally change my ways, lest I repeat my own negative patterns again. I dove deep into my yoga studies; releasing fear and anxiety and replacing them with love, faith, and a perspective so big that suffering was a flyspeck instead of an abyss. I changed my life completely, making a shift to attracting peace, friends, prosperity, a flourishing career, and new love. I’ve lived yoga every day since, and can help you find this peace, too.
Fun Stuff…
Most mornings you can find me walking my dogs in the woods and bogs of Southeastern Massachusetts, digging in the dirt in my garden, or hanging out on my yoga mat. My hubby and I live a quiet, simple life and enjoy every minute! I’m on a relentless quest of self-evolution, making sure I spend time every year traveling to yoga trainings and retreats. I love spending time with my family and friends, heartfelt connection with other people is a real treat!
Here’s what my students are saying…
“I had to admit Gita's style of yoga made me feel better than all the other yoga classes I have enrolled in. Gita is more than just the ‘do the movements’, collect a paycheck kind of yoga instructor. Gita lives her practice. I find Gita to be creative and extremely well versed in matters of not only the body, the mind and soul as well. learned neat books to read from Gita, I learned about the Neti pot and other cool things. I could tell Gita spent time planning her classes. I have attended classes instructors do not plan their classes. Believe me the difference is obvious. I have recommended Gita to many beginner yoga students because Gita is vocal about all her students working at their own pace. You will find Gita to be safe, delightful and humorous. As if this is not enough, Gita has the voice of an angel!”
— Marj Bates
“I can think more clearly after my yoga class. Sometimes I feel like I need a chiropractor, but after my class my body feels great!”
— Nicole, age 12
“My daughter Sydney, has been doing Yoga for the Special Child with Ms. Gita for over a year. Gita’s calm and caring demeanor has helped to relax Sydney and get her to sit still. Sydney has difficulty with auditory and tactile sensory processing and is a very sensitive little girl. Since starting Yoga for the Special Child, Sydney is more aware of her breathing and how to calm herself down with prompts from me when she starts to get overwhelmed. This is also a ‘special time’ that is just for Sydney that is not something that she ‘has’ to do such as the physical, occupational and speech therapies she is required to have during the school day. Sydney has bonded with Gita and learned to trust that doing something different is not always going to ‘hurt’. Yoga has also given her a sense of pride and accomplishment and she loves to show her grandparents her chants and yoga moves. This is a great experience that I would recommend to anyone with a special child.”
